Screw you VPN, you suck a big fat behind. So damn slow from home that there is no point in even using you. Taking five minutes to save a Word file. Not saving when saved to, so that updates get lost. Interrupting the flow of thought that is so hard to finally get into when we're writing these godforsaken things.

  1. I may be reading too much into this but, I have the impression that you are not happy with VPN... :-)It's not VPN, the problem are the system administrators who think that a good way to address network security issues, is to limit access to services, to the point where working becomes impossible. It's a PITA, but it's better to do the editing locally (at home), and then synchronize everything at the end of the day.

  2. Heh, lol, yes indeed. That post was inspired by my rage at not being able to make simple basic progress on my grant application because my VPN difficulties/slowness meant that it took about 5 minutes to save anything. It also kept making my document crash before things had saved. I decided to say "Screw it!" to trying to use my departmental network folder and went local instead. That was much better.
